How this directory works
Every centre here is seeded from the public NARCH register, the main professional body for canine hydrotherapy in the UK. Registration means the therapist has trained and sat exams, carries insurance, and works to a code of conduct that includes requiring a referral from your vet before treating your dog. It's the single most useful filter in an industry that anyone can legally enter.
What we list: location, facilities (41 centres have both a pool and an underwater treadmill), whether there's a physiotherapist on site, and contact details. What we don't do is rank centres or take payment for placement. When that changes at any point, it will say so on the page.

Pool, treadmill, or both
Don't rule a centre out because it only has one kind of kit. Pools suit fitness work, weight loss and dogs who can't bear weight; underwater treadmills suit gait retraining after surgery. - How do I know a centre is properly qualified?
- Every centre listed here appears on the NARCH register, which requires trained, examined and insured hydrotherapists working to a code of conduct. Beyond that, ask who will actually be in the water with your dog and what their qualification is. Our guide to choosing a hydrotherapist covers the exact questions to ask.
- Do I need a vet referral before contacting a centre?
- You can ring a centre and ask questions without one, and a good centre will happily talk you through what they do. But no registered centre will treat your dog without a vet referral, so getting that conversation started with your vet early saves a week or two of waiting.
- What if there is no centre near me?
- Coverage is thinner in rural Wales, the South West peninsula and northern Scotland, and a 45 minute drive is normal there. Check the neighbouring counties on this page, and ask your vet: some rehab practices offer hydrotherapy without appearing on the public register, and your vet will know who is credible locally.
- Pool or underwater treadmill: does the centre need both?
- No. They do different jobs: pools suit fitness and non-weight-bearing work, treadmills suit gait retraining after surgery. The right kit depends on your dog’s condition, which is a clinical decision made at assessment. If your dog needs the other kind, a good therapist will say so and point you to a centre that has it.
